CVs are great. We couldn’t do our job of finding great people for great manufacturing, engineering and distribution companies without them!
But when we're talking to prospective employers in Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire about candidates we’d like them to meet, a CV only tells one side of the story.
Which is why we are increasingly offering our clients the ability to ‘see’ prospective candidates on video, before they decide whether or not they wish to invest time in meeting them in person.
Recruiting new staff can be a time-consuming business. Even with the support of a professional recruitment consultancy doing onerous work such as the initial screenings and key tasks such as checking candidates’ right to work, there is still plenty for you to do as an employer.
You need to view short-lists of candidates, read CVs, perhaps do a bit of searching on LinkedIn and share information with other decision-makers in your business.
The desire to be able to discover more about candidates than what’s on their CVs is why, even though in-person interviews are now - happily - the norm again, many of our clients are still benefitting from using video as a highly effective way of building shortlists of high-quality, prime candidates with the least time investment.
Using our specialist video platform, we can send you videos of all the shortlisted candidates for a particular role on a single link.
We can also attach the candidate's CV, documents and any notes with their video too, so you have everything in one place and don't have to search through around for multiple emails or messages to find the information you need.
Another time-saver is, if you start watching a shortlisted candidate video and get the feeling that they aren’t the right person for your business, you can skip the rest of the video. Or simply fast-forward to the questions you think are the most important to your decision.
All in all, this could potentially save you hours of your valuable time!
As you’ll know if you’ve asked us to find you staff in the past, we pride ourselves on offering a highly personalised, professional service and will only ever put forward candidates who we genuinely believe are right for your company.
But it can sometimes be hard to describe exactly what makes someone ideal for a position. Historically, we meet and interview to candidates and then update employers on what they have to offer.
We can just send you a short clip of them answering specific questions for themselves, meaning you can then assess if they are right for you and your team culture.
It also means that you are more likely to find the right person first time. In fact, the final interview to hire ratio when employers have been able to preview shortlisted candidates using a recruitment video platform is over 70%.
Perhaps more importantly, using video allows us to show you people who we call ‘hidden gems’ - candidates who may not initially appear to be a 100% fit on paper, but who have the attributes, transferable skills or talents that could be ideal for your vacancy - especially in roles that are hard to fill.
One of our Talent Consultants, Abi Yogarajah, had one recent case where we were able to do just that:
“We had a candidate recently whose details we sent over to the client and who they initially thought wouldn’t be right for their role. But after we sent over a short video featuring the candidate, they were amazed by the clarity of her responses and invited her for an interview.
“The next thing you know she was interviewed, offered the job and accepted, to everyone’s delight!”
This is a prime example of how using our video platform enables employers to find out more about candidates than what’s revealed on their CV.
The platform we use is designed specifically for recruitment, unlike the video conferencing platforms we all use for meetings such as Zoom or Teams.
One of the features which clients find particularly helpful is the ability to either host live interviews which can be recorded to watch back in collaborations with other stakeholders, or a ‘one-way interview’, where the candidates answer questions you have set on video, for you to review and share with other decision-makers as appropriate.
This means that you don’t just have to take our word for it that an applicant is a good match - you and other colleagues can see it for yourselves!
We do have a small number of clients who would prefer not to use e video for the shortlisting process, which of course is absolutely fine as we tailor our services to suit each individual company.
One of our key values is our personal approach, so we always give our clients and candidates the choice as to whether using video is right for them.
Some of our clients were hesitant at the start, but once they realised how much time they saved, and how much better they understood what each candidate has to offer beyond their CV, they are usually sold!
If you’d like a demo of how our system works before you decide whether or not to request candidate videos for your next hire, just give us a call and we’d be delighted to give you a quick preview of how it can save time, help you discover hidden gems and share information with colleagues quickly and easily.
